A 2020 media report featured IVE graduates who used automation engineering to build production lines for more than 30 local mask manufacturers.

During the pandemic, Hong Kong’s rapid expansion of local mask production created an immediate need for automation expertise. A report published by am730 on 9 November 2020 featured IVE electrical-engineering graduate Lai Shuen Chau and his automation engineering and consulting company.

According to the report, the company established automated production lines for more than 30 local mask manufacturers. With overseas engineers unable to travel to Hong Kong, local automation teams helped manufacturers bring equipment into operation and supported a more stable local mask supply.

The team included IVE mechanical-engineering graduate Yeung Ka Ho, whose work covered programming, hardware configuration, component installation and wiring. The story shows how multidisciplinary vocational training can translate directly into practical production systems under urgent conditions.
